e/m
By Thomson (Bar Magnet Method)
Activity : To measure e/m of Electron by Thomson Method Bar Magnet method.
One method of demonstration modern physics in the controlled bending of
stream of high speed electrons in a magnetic field. The actual measurement
by students of the ratio of the charge on the electron to its equally
minute mass imparts a stimulating sense of achievement. e/m apparatus has
been perfected to the point where it is possible for this fundamentally
important measurement to be carried out with good accuracy. Power Supply : E.H.T. 800V D.C. for cathode Voltage to C.R. tube.
0-100 volts D.C. with moving coil meters to measure the Deflecting voltage
either y1 or y2 Plates.
Cathode Ray tube fitted on wooden frame with scale divided in
centimeters. Deflecting Magnetometer with permanent magnetic compass
included. Compass stand, a pair of Bar Magnet. |
e/m by Helical Method (Solenoid Method)
Having
three major parts to measure electron for e/m by Helical Method, i.e.
1. Standard Solenoid of multi-turned layers fitted on wooden base.
2. Power supply, for cathode voltage to CRT. Provided with high
resistance
voltmeter, Also having solenoid supply with coarse and fine control
arrangement, an ampare meter is used to measure current passing in
solenoid.
3. Cathode Ray Tube mounted to moveable inner side of the standard
solenoid. |
Millikan's Oil Drop Apparatus
The
noted oil drop experment by which Prof. Robert A. Millikan measured the
charge on the electron can be repeated by the student with this equipment.
The latest improved design is based upon the experience and recommendation
of teachers.
Principal
elements of the assembly are specially designed condenser, a light source
and a measuring microscope. The All are mounted on a common support. Consisting
of a heavy cast iron base which is mounted on a steel pillar that carries
the microscope and the lamp house. The microscope can be adjustedsmoothly by slow motion screws in the horizontal as well as in the
vertical direction. Atomizer is also fitted on the same carriage. The
apparatus does not need any critical adjustment and the oil drops appear
in microscope within seconds. Microscope is provided with micro meter
scale. |
Power Supply for Millikan's Oil Drop App.
Specially
designed for use with Millikan's Oil Drop Apparatus. It give IC regulated
D.C. output 0.300 volt continuously variable to be applied to condenser
plates and a 6 volt at 3A A.C. supply for the lamp house. |
